Suspension and Steering Systems

The primary function of your cars suspension and steering systems is to allow the wheels to move independently of the car, while keeping it "suspended" and stable.  Any play or uncontrolled motion in these systems results in a deterioration of handling and accelerated tire wear.  Vehicle alignment is closely tied to the condition of the suspension and steering systems.  Worn out shocks or leaking shocks can cause an increase your car or trucks stopping distance and a poses a safety concern.  With worn our shock or struts, there may be reduced tire contact with the road becuase the shock or strut is worn out.  With ruduced contact, you brakes can not stop the car effectively.   Also a shock or strut that is worn may cause excessive weight transfer of the car, front to rear or side to side, which may cause premature brake lock up, loss of control, and a greater stopping distance.

Steering Systems

Worn or loose components affect toe angle, and may result in a loss of directional stability and accelerated tire wear.  The main components of a Conventional system are:

  • 5. Tie Rods

The main components of a Rack and Pinion steering system are:

Suspension System Shocks and Struts

Worn or loose steering components can affect the suspension systems ability to control motion and alignment angles, resulting in poor handling and stability, and accelerated tire wear.  The main components of the suspension system are:

  • 11. Springs (Coil or Leaf)
  • 12. Shock Absorbers
